The Date: 18 September 2010
The Ride: Yamaha VStar 1100 '07
The Destination: Troy(Detroit)-Lansing - Troy 170miles
The weekend was predicted to be a rainy day, but that was not going to stop me. I had my friend's 2007 Yamaha VStar 1100 in my garage for the weekend and come rain or shine, I was not going to miss a ride on it.
Pre ride Pics
I initially took the smaller roads to get comfortable with the bike and then got on the I696 towards Lansing, Michigan's capital city. The bike comfortably reached cruising speeds of 70mph and I was keeping up with some other riders on the freeway. A few miles down the road, reaching Novi, it started raining heavily. I had to slow down for taking small curves on the freeway or changing lanes, especially with SUVs the size of a mini truck thundering past at well over 70mph.
I got off at the next exit and checked the map for an alternate route. Grand River Ave is a road which goes alongside the I696 towards Lansing. The road was bumpy and it was raining heavily but the view was well worth it. The speed limit on the road was 55mph but it passes through several small towns, so at times it went down to 45 and 25mph.
Stopped for a couple of pictures once the rain had stopped.
I met up with my friend Rijosh at Okemos, near Lansing and had lunch.
A quick look at the weather forecast and saw a storm coming up, so I decided to stay and let the storm blow over. There was another bigger storm following this one, so I decided to go back home, behind the first storm. I returned on the Grand River Ave, but decided to take the M59 State Highway via Pontiac which was quite uninspiring. Its better to take one of the normal roads than the Highway/Freeway if the ride matters more than the destination.
